NOW IT’S YOUR TURN!
Write down the top 5 actions, experiences, or thoughts that you achieved in 2016. Take a moment to sit with them. Smile and be proud of your accomplishments. Express gratitude to yourself and others who supported you along the way. Then, identify the skills and strengths that enabled you to be successful and envision using those same strategies to reach new successes in 2017.
NEW PATHWAYS TO SUCCESS
Resolutions have a way of falling by the wayside and may even counter feelings of self-efficacy. This year, I invite you to join me on the margins of society. Let go of the need to formulate resolutions. Instead answer the following two questions with one word each:
- What color do you want to define 2017 for you?
- What word do you want to characterize 2017 for you?
No need to rush (it’s OK if you don’t have answers by January 1st). Don’t force answers. Let the answers come to you. You’ll know when you happened upon the correct answers. They’ll be what you need to continue in the positive direction on your journey toward wellness.
Once you have your answers, let the word and color permeate 2017. Maybe it means taking new actions, letting go of thoughts, adding or removing something from your life, finding strength in comfort or stepping outside your comfort zone, choosing a color that was not previously in your rainbow, and/or adding new color to your life.
